Maintenance Electrician (Baltimore)

Basic Purpose

The Maintenance Electrician performs complex technical work in the installation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of electrical systems, equipment, fixtures, and related electro-mechanical systems. This position also inspects and tests elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions, performs required repairs through replacement of inoperative parts or re-wiring of circuits, and provides an estimate of repair or replacement costs beyond the capability to perform. The Maintenance Electrician also calculates branch circuit loads, interprets electrical wiring diagrams and schematics, and determines methods and requirements for wiring circuits. NOTE: This position is based out of our Baltimore MD facility location.

Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical work in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, fixtures, and related electro-mechanical systems.
  • Inspects and tests elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions.
  • Performs required repairs through replacement of inoperative parts or re-wiring of circuits in accordance with applicable Electrical Industry Codes.
  • Ensures that electrical distribution systems are safe, meet the requirements for electrical power, and comply with applicable codes by maintaining, modifying, and repairing those systems; monitoring, installing or replacing, and adjusting transformers to desired rated capacities in conformance with applicable electrical code requirements; calculating branch circuit loads, interpreting electrical wiring diagrams and schematics, and determining methods and requirements for wiring circuits.
  • Reduces the need to purchase new/replacement electric motors by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electric motors, determining the interchangeability of parts on non-repairable motors, salvaging those parts as a replacement parts inventory, and replacing starter switches, electrical leads, fuses, insulators, gears, bushings and bearings, and other inoperative components.
  • Provides technical assistance in the purchase of new or replacement electrical and electro-mechanical equipment or systems by reviewing and preparing equipment specifications, and advising the Senior Maintenance Manager on equipment capability and compatibility, installation requirements and costs, and potential operations and maintenance expenses.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and follows established safety procedures.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and work instructions including Employee Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Manufacturing Operating Procedures (MOPs), Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), and Safety Manual.
  • Maintains awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; reports all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification or equivalent experience in electrical field required.
  • 8-10 years’ prior maintenance experience required.
  • Knowledge of current OSHA, NEC, and ANSI standards
  • Must be able to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
  • Must be able to use electrical test equipment and small hand and power tools.
  • Must be computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced working environment with accuracy and integrity.
  • Able to work in a team environment and interface with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to perform maintenance functions above ground level from l' to 50'
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk, bend, stoop, or crouch for at least an 8-hour shift
  • Must be able to use hands, fingers to handle or feel machinery, equipment or parts and work near moving mechanical parts.
